QR Codes On Your Plastic Card

QR Bar Code Plastic Card

“I just can’t fit all the information I want onto my plastic card!” All of us here at CDN Print Plastic have heard this before, and more frequently. In this information age, there is just so much to say, so little time to say it or pay attention to it or so little space to fit it all in. With “only” a space of 3.375″ x 2.125″ (3 3/8″ x 2 1/8″) to the size of a typical gift card or plastic card, sometimes getting it all in can be a challenge for even the most experienced designers, let alone a do-it-yourself-er.

So what would you say if we told you that you could fit pictures, company information, product catalogs, and maybe a “how-to” video all onto that poor little scrap of plastic? The answer is: design it with a QR Code!!!

Scan from Smart Phone

QR Codes Are Good For Your Business

Did you ever wish you could include a powerpoint application with your card? Easily direct people to your web site? Distribute a beta version of your hottest software? Perform an interactive customer survey? With a QR Code, and the proper device, such as a camera phone with a free QRReader app or an android phone, all of those uses and so much more are available with just a point and a click. When scanned, the barcode can trigger different applications to make all those wishes come true. That’s pretty impressive on its own. Add to it the consideration that your information is now continually with the user, on their ever-present mobile device.

If you’re pretty new to those tiny little Blackberry keys… scanning a QR Code sure beats trying to type in a url without making a mistake on that teensy tiny keyboard.

If you’re considering buying a plastic card printer, you have a wide array of choices. Different printers have different features. In order to ensure that you get the best fit for your needs, here are a few things to consider:

Color or Monochrome: Do you need to print your cards in full-color or will just black ink suffice? Will you be printing a photo on the card? If color isn’t a necessity, you might consider having your cards pre-printed and then just choose a monochrome card printer to do the imprint as needed.

Single- or Double-sided: Do you need to print on one or both sides of the card?

Lamination Capability: You can choose a printer that laminates one or both sides of the card—or exclude this feature altogether. Most plastic cards last about two years; lamination can extend the card’s life.

Volume: How many cards will you print each week? Some printers are equipped to output cards faster, so take this into consideration when evaluating your card printer choices.

Durability: How frequently will the cardholder be using the card? If it has a magnetic stripe, how often will it be swiped? You want to be sure that the user isn’t getting read errors, which is particularly important for ID cards and employee badges.

Security: Depending on the card’s application, you might need a printer that can output plastic cards with added security features. Smart cards, for example, have an embedded computer chip that can hold more data than a magnetic stripe.

You can compare a variety of printers and features here. And if you need assistance, please let us know!

Plastic used to be an environmental threat, because it didn’t degrade naturally and created more waste in landfills that wasn’t going anywhere. But technology has stepped up to overcome the challenge. As a result, we now have the BIO CARD. Made from an environmentally friendly plastic, the patent-pending BIO CARD is the most biodegradable CR80 plastic card currently on the market—and further proof that you don’t have to settle for less to do the right thing!

Here’s the lowdown on the BIO CARD’s highlights:

Breaks down faster. Once the BIO CARD is discarded, it will fully biodegrade in a much shorter period than conventional plastics and even other eco-friendly cards—within six months to five years. Tests have proven the non-polluting material will biodegrade in composts, landfills, rivers, waterways, and oceans.

More durable than other “green” plastic. The BIO CARD delivers the same durability as standard PVC plastic cards and greater durability than other eco-friendly CR80 plastic cards. So, you don’t have to compromise quality.

Delivers quality results. The eco-friendly plastic of the BIO CARD accepts printing with the same optimum quality as other PVC plastics.

If you’re looking for a way to incorporate an environmentally friendly solution to your plastic card printing, email us for details and pricing on the BIO CARD.

There was a time when associations and retailers issued paper cards to their members and valued customers, respectively. The primary reason was that it was easier, faster, and less expensive to use paper.

That was then. This is now.

Plastic card printing has undergone a revolution. With the concern for saving paper and the ability to recycle plastic for reuse, plastic has become not only the smarter choice, but more cost-efficient one.

Plastic cards can be preprinted in bulk, much like you would have done with your paper cards, so that they can be imprinted later. With the affordability and ease of plastic card printers, you can now produce a customized membership, loyalty, or gift card in just a couple of minutes—in full color, one- or two-sided, with or without a magnetic stripe, and even with a photograph. And the appearance of the durable plastic card presents a more impressive reflection of your brand than the paper one. Look in your wallet. How many dog-eared paper cards do you have? Compare that with the number of loyalty and membership cards.

Plastic is clearly the better solution for card printing. There is a wide array of plastic card printers available, too, so whether you print just a few cards a week or hundreds, you can get a printer that fits your needs.
